Adam Simmonds has launched The Test Kitchen, taking over the old Barrafina site on Frith Street. Test Kitchen is a year-long pop-up in Soho, that will give Adam the opportunity to explore and trial new flavours, practise cooking techniques as well as evaluate service and presentation ahead of opening a permanent spot in early 2018.
The Test Kitchen will have no set genre, instead it is a celebration of Adam’s food journey to date, an amalgamation of his time spent in award winning kitchens including Le Gavroche and The Halkin under Gualteiro Marchesi, as well as his extensive travels around Scandinavia and Europe which have constantly inspired and influenced his cooking. Experiences that have particularly resonated with Adam include 3 years spent cooking at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, so expect to see plenty of solid flavours on the menu, likewise his Michelin experience will ensure that every dish is a considered accomplishment.
Test Kitchen is essentially one big chef’s table – you will be asked for feedback on the dishes to help evolve dishes that could appear on the menu at his future restaurant and there will be animated mirrors highlighting the progress of the ideas on the walls. All the seating is at the chef’s counter that snakes the room meaning live interaction with the chefs is welcomed and any questions about the dishes can be directed straight to Adam himself.
Most importantly, The Test Kitchen will reflect Adam’s personable nature paving the way for an informal, relaxed and fun experience. Adam’s not sticking to a set style of cookery so we don’t know what you’re going to get, but it’s definitely going to be an interesting experience!
